November 26, 2019. 123 days old.
Last week, our little Vesnić turned 4 months old! And wow, what happened to that little baby that just a few weeks ago was flailing her limbs aimlessly and is now a full-blown baby grabbing objects, touching her feet, propping herself up during tummy time, constantly ‘chatting’ away in baby gibberish, looking up and around curiously and eyeing our food and opening her mouth like she’s ready to eat big girl food! Even her music teacher commented yesterday on how much she’s grown after not seeing her for two weeks. Given that time is flying by so fast, I decided to book a little photoshoot, regretting not having done so when she was born. She also had her 4-month doctor check up this week, so it’s been a busy one for us with the Holidays and everything else.
So what's new this month? So much! She is changing day by day. She is now 16 pounds and 5 ounces and is no longer in the 90th percentile, but still in the 84th percentile for weight and same for height. Her head is on a whole another level though as she is still at the top of the percentile, maybe big head = big brains? Ha! Both Jason and I have abnormally big heads, so it runs in the family. Last month was all about discovering her little hands and this month is all about discovering her little piggies/sausages aka feet. It’s hard keeping a straight face or not kissing them when we’re changing her diaper at night. One night, when I came back into the room, she was just chilling on the bed silently, legs and feet up in the air while holding her piggies. Her arms are a lot more coordinated and she is able to grab toys and objects and hold the pacifier and even the bottle when grandma and grandpa are feeding her. We’ve also caught her scratching her head a few times. She is starting to make eye contact and look at us for long periods of time and any time we take her somewhere new she is looking up and around curiously. She even smiles at her doggy Sammy. Whenever we eat, she follows with her eyes and opens her mouth, so hopefully this means she will be ready for food soon, which according to the doctor she is! We are going to slowly start introducing purees to her this month and in two months, we will try baby led weaning. Vesna is also starting to move her back a lot and turn to the side. We think that she is getting more and more eager to move! One of her new things is making farting noises/blowing raspberries and screeching at the top of her lungs. Not as cute when it’s happening in the middle of the night or when we’re out and about. The screeching sounds like something coming out of dinosaur birds, so we’ve nicknamed her Vesnascoreous.

Mama update: I am back working full time and I FaceTime her every time I pump at work. I thought I was past everything postpartum, but this month my hair started to fall out like crazy. Sometimes I can’t believe how much hair I pull out when I’m brushing or taking a shower. While my hair is falling out, Vesna’s hair is growing. Other than that, I am soooo extremely tired. Vesna’s sleeping schedule has been somewhat all over the place and it could be that she’s going through her 4 month sleep regression a bit early and at the same time teething (which the doctor confirmed). She’s been waking up every two hours and is fully awake in the middle of the night, just chatting and shrieking away in excitement. Hopefully, this little nighttime party is only temporary. The doctor said that if things don’t change by 6 month, we will have to sleep train her. And hopefully by then, she will make the permanent move up to her room and crib. I love sleeping next to her, but we also can’t wait to get our bed back and not have to sleep on the edge or foot of the bed. Jason and I used to cuddle the whole night while sleeping and we haven’t been able to do that since my late pregnancy when I used to surround myself with mounds of pillows. Now it’s a little baby between us.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and it also marks a year from the date when we found out I was pregnant!

A few pictures I took of Vesna the past month for a Target baby model casting call we received. She wasn't selected. Clearly, Target doesn't know cute and totally missed out.
